About

I’m a designer, developer, and content producer with a background in arts, design, and psychology. I’m a curious generalist by nature, happiest where disciplines overlap. Since 2005, I’ve worked with non‑profits (including long‑term work with IIED). Recent work includes Drupal upgrades, custom theming, content templates, and animated explainers to make complex work clearer and more usable.

I help teams make their content clear, useful and accessible. I’m also interested in what happens after publishing, whether people can find what they need, understand it quickly, and trust it enough to share or act on it. I work with open-source tools (especially Drupal), alongside a practical set of tools for data visuals, illustration and animation. I focus on end‑to‑end solutions, leaning toward measurement and marketing. I’m not a full‑stack developer; I’m strongest where design, content, and front‑end meet.

Here are some things I’d currently say I’m good at:

  • Making complicated content simple and intuitive, without losing accuracy
  • HTML/CSS, Tailwind, Drupal theming (Twig), web standards, accessibility
  • UX design, information architecture, and content models/templates
  • Visual storytelling and motion: illustration, infographics, charts/maps, short explainers and motion graphics (After Effects)
  • Branding and visual identity: logos, guidelines, and templates for consistent publishing
  • Communications support: email, landing pages, SEO/discoverability, and practical analytics
  • Evidence-led improvements using GA4, Search Console and user feedback (plus Tag Manager, dashboards, and Google Ads/Ad Grants, practical on‑site/technical SEO)
  • Staying calm, shaping messy problems into a plan, and collaborating well, especially through feedback

Still learning (but I can work alongside specialists):

  • Full-stack architecture and heavy JavaScript frameworks
  • Advanced DevOps/CI/CD and complex infrastructure work
  • Advanced interactive graphics (GSAP, WebGL)

I’m curious, but cautious about AI. I use tools where they help and I keep human judgement at the centre of the work, designing with and for people.

I’m open to freelance projects and the right full‑time role. Good fits: digital communications manager, content/product/UX designer, front‑end designer‑developer, web manager, digital producer, visual/motion designer.

When I’m not at a screen you can often find me in the kitchen.
